Written on 10:16 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

So one of the bigger challenges in planning has been to fit as much planning as possible into my random days off. So today we are currently en route to Jos A Banks to pick up/ fit my FLAT FRONT tux pants!! That is some search let me tell ya. Didn't think it would be nearly this hard to find flat front tux pants....oh well...I digress.

We also have an appointment with our florist @ 3pm today. Time to hammer out the last few details as we're fast approaching under 30 days!!!!

On a different note, I have one of my first senior sessions today with the son of one of a family friend. Should be a blast! Check my facebook account for the photos soon!

and HIS ring has been purchased!

Written on 6:57 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Yep, it's official I bought Kev's ring tonight! Whoop, whoop!. After looking for hours at all the bling, we went for a more simple and classic look! White gold, clean band! It sure looked good on that finger, I'm ready for it to permanently be there! Just 64 days until that dream is a reality!

Drum roll please......

Written on 7:05 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

........ 66 days until we get MARRIED! There are days, I still catch myself acting like a teenager because I'm so crazy in love with Kevin. Silly, as it may seem, it's a love THAT real.

Wedding updates
Kevin's tux coat came in! Now the search is on for pants, and hold the satin stripe on the side please :) You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to find flat front pants, with no pleats, yeah not the case! The search is on!

I met with our seamstress yesterday morning! She is one talented seamstress and is a fellow church friend. She will be making the candle lighters and flower girl dresses. Check out her website! http://www.vanyadesigns.com

Still working on the food arrangements. While living in McPherson, I worked for a little restaurant called Amics. Anne, the owner, started the catering business out of her home and now has a restaurant along side her catering! Awesome food, you'll just have to taste it for yourself! Another website to check out: http://www.amicscatering.com

Invites are in and they look awesome! There is a little assembly required but nothing a little manual labor can't fix!

Keep your eyes open for what's to come in the mail!

big step

Written on 5:30 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

So among the many projects we've been smack in the middle of, refinishing our hardwood floors has been smack in the middle of it all. And what a project it has been!

The exciting new is after all the hours spent sanding and sanding we finally threw down stain in the first room! So exciting! The office was the brave soul to take the plunge. We love it! So much better than the yellowy oaky color!

Today I'm kicking my day off with a much needed haircut and then it's on to ordering my tux! Well...my tux jacket. You'd think I'm not the only person in history to attempt to find flat front tux pants?!?!? Apparently so...the hunt continues!

Save the dates have been drug out time after time....in fact we just recieved our actual invitations last week! So save the dates have begun to weigh on our shoulders. They WILL be done this week!! They WILL!

If you'd like more up to date wedding/Kevin/Josie info you can follow me on twitter.com/kevinferstl

Until we meet again!

hello friend...it's been awhile

Written on 12:48 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Well hello again.

Nice to see you're still here.

So much has changed even since our last blog posting.

The invite company fell through. Too bad...however we've found an awesome new design at Maxine's here in Wichita that are even cooler. Never seen anything quite like them before! You'll all dig 'em. I'm sure of it.

We know we've dropped the ball on our save-the-dates. So annoying how time can spin into a total whirlwind without your knowledge. Something about buying a house and going to Emerald Isle, NC and Tryon, NE during the purchase can really stretch your ETA on finishing projects. They'll be out within a week. That's the plan and we're sticking to it!

Speaking of house...we've now officially purchased our first ever home! Holy cow. It's truly overwhelming how good God is to us. I mean even just the homerun of bringing us together is good, but man, He's on a roll I tell ya. And in true Jos Kev fashion; the painting began within hours of closing. Check out our update album here. On that note. Add both of us as facebook friends to see further updates.....plus it's just good for your sanity to friend us. ;)

I did finally find a tux that mostly matched my criteria. Pretty slick and pretty classicly vintage. Although I have to find an alternate place for the tux pants. I just can't do pleats........ugh.......

Up To KC

Written on 6:48 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

So today we (My folks, Jos & I) headed up to KC today to begin the design process of our invitations. There are umpteen amounts of options, but we had a good idea of what we were wanting.

The place (name unnamounced) is awesome. Just a small business run by two former ad guys who started making cards for fun...then it turned in to an awesome business. There place is slick. A renovated small little country home. You'd never even know it was there.

Today got me thinking. We didn't necessarily set out to deal only with small businesses and we've not been 100% with it (David's Bridal for engagement dresses), but we've sure enjoyed dealing with small mostly.

You just feel so much more like you're important. Like they are so excited and ready to make our day as special as possible.

From Josh McCullock (http://joshmccullock.blogspot.com), Cake Affairs, invites & Jos' dress...we've sure enjoyed staying small...even if the potential attendance size isn't small. Haha

It's here

Written on 8:28 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Today Jos & I are heading to OKC for our engagemant shoot. The nervousness has subsided now. The original forecast was 80% chance of rain for the entire day. Now we're at 80% until 6pm then 30%. So it's looking now like we will have some awesome backdrops for our shoot. Water reflections=awesome!

....196 days...a.k.a. 6 months!

Written on 7:33 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

As we surpassed the 200 day mark, it seems as if the days are now in fast-forward motion! For people who are like me and put it into a month perspective, that's close to 6 months friends! HOLY MOLY!  Six months and Kevin and I will be married! Most days, it can't get here soon enough! But, as we have watched the days countdown from 300 to 196, I know it will be here before we know it!

My dress and veil have both come in and they are beautiful! I never fathomed I could love a dress this much, but I do! As my old roommate would put it, "It's very Josie!" Kevin doesn't want to know anything about the dress, so it's been a challenge not giving details away!

Our engagement pictures are next week! Kevin and I have been stoked about our photographer since day one, and we get to fully engage in his photograpy next week! We will be heading down to Josh's territory in Oklahoma City for the shoot. Since he knows the "good spots," we will gladly make that trip! We can't wait to see the final results!
Be on the lookout for save-the-dates!

Blessings to all!

Less Than 200!!

Written on 7:43 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

We officially dropped below the 200 day mark this week!!

Currently we stand @ 197 days.

To be finished:
Save the dates

Save the dates should be going to print within the next week. So hopefully they'll zip right out to ya soon! And of course you're just going to have to wait and see in person what they look like. Muahahah

Works In Progress

Written on 8:59 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

So we've now officially met with Josh last weekend. We zipped down to OKC and chatted over coffee. Super chill.

Jos did call it. Josh and I both "geeked out" for about 20 minutes upon our first meeting. Macs, cameras, Macs, Macs, cameras...etc...

I have to tell anyone reading this blog that is getting married...I've not even had Josh take one picture of us and I'd tell you to book him right now. He was very humble and reflexive about his progression as a photographer, as well as his approach to this upcoming wedding season versus last year. We were already sold, but that solidified our "right choice" mentality even further.

And to our surprise he mentioned meeting us in his blog. He seemed to walk away with the same feeling about progression as we did. Interesting.

Save the dates are nearly finished. Yeah...you only wish we would show you a sneak peak....muahahahahah

They're coming out soon. They will go to the printer in the next week or two and should be mailed shortly after that. Yeah, we're on top of things.

Until we meet again,

First Registry...CHECK!

Written on 11:10 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Inevitably, planning is starting to plateau.

We had a great time in KC last weekend.  It was my first chance to meet some of the Miller cousins.  What a blast.

Jos & I had planned on doing some tux hunting while in KC, but lunch at a mongolian barbeque will easy change your mind on that one.  ;)

So after spending the day wandering around Oak Park Mall with the cousins; Jos & I headed over to the Apple Store (OF COURSE!) to do a little drooling....While we were in the area we had a flash of brilliance and decided to register at Crate & Barrel.  I know, I know...if only we could register at the Apple Store.

It's funny how you go through a few different stages when registering for the first time.
1. Nervousness about finding an associate to help up set up the registry.
2. Overwhelming anxiety when they hand you the gun and say, "Have at it!"
3. Apprehension towards scanning anything over the "econo" pricing.
4. Sheer whimsy after you scan a $3,000 orange leather chair!

5. A grounded reality resumes and you move on to cups.
6. Sadness...as you return the scanner/gun/lightsaber.
7. Anticipation towards the arrival of the next registry experience!

It really was a blast and honestly the folks at C&B couldn't have been any more helpful.

Oh yeah...they handed the gun to me straight away.....guess they figured that's the only fun part for the groom.  Boy, they sure don't know me.  Haha.  Here are a few more shots from the day.

Now are efforts are focused on finalizing the guest list and readying the "Save the dates."  You'll just have to wait and see about how those will turn out!  Muahahahah

Wedding Dress...check!

Written on 1:12 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

The dress has been ordered and I am elated! Now it's time to work on getting all my bridesmaids togther to try on the dress I have my eye on for them. Easier said than done, since they are spread out between Kansas and Oklahoma!

The Ferstl basement has become the haven for all the wedding decoration items! Both our parenst have been great help at giving us ideas! I can't thank our parents enough for all they have done to help thus far!

All in all, the planning is going well. We both are very organized people, so it doesn't surprise me that we are on top of the planning.

Ok...off to research tux places in Kansas City!

Photographer. Check!

Written on 5:48 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

The hunt is over.

We have officially found the photographer that will be shooting our wedding!

Josh McCullock

Check him out here. I personally have not had a chance to chat with him, but Jos chatted him on the phone today and was totally sold on his personality and approach towards shooting our wedding.  So after a bit of a scare with the couple booking Ryan, we stumbled upon Josh while actually contacting another photographer.  But boy did we sure hit the lottery.  He hits and exceeds all of our "must haves" for a wedding photographer.....plus a few more....

1. He shoots Nikon.  Check
2. His workspace is littered with signs of the Mac-obsessed.  Check.
3. Plus his email ended with @mac.com. Check

We also had our first meeting with a potential company to do our flowers.  This was the one area in which neither of us had any CONCRETE ideas on just what we wanted.  The meeting went well, however, we're going to check out a few more places.  More on that one later.

It's about time for the latest episode of "The Office" to start!  So I'm out.

Pics from Saturday's wedding planning with Jessa.

Back in action...

Written on 7:26 AM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

As I write this morning, I am listening to my favorite musician, Jeremy Camp. The song is entitled, "Trust in You." When I think of all the planning and upcoming "to do" lists I am reminded to keep giving it all to God and trust in His wonderful and unfailing love. That trust in God, is what kept my hope alive to find my future husband. Even though sometimes the road was tiring and seemed never ending, God was right in the midst of it all. And the man God had waiting for me......totally worth the wait! I can't wait to marry my best friend! And I can tell anyone who has lost hope in the "happily ever after"..... keep trusting God, He is good and faithful.

Yes..it's been a few days, I am lagging behind a bit! Whoops!

Last weekend Kev and I had the chance to hang out with Kev's "lil sis," Jessa! She is such a doll and I am thankful Kev and I will get to be in her life for all the years to come. Little did she know, we had a big surprise for her in store! While we were eating lunch, we asked her what she thought she saw herself doing at our wedding.
Her reply, "I could be a human coat rack or guest book person..!"
So, in our sneakiness, I asked Jessa if she would like to have a little bit bigger role and become one of my bridesmaids!
        "OF COURSE!!" She replied!
So, now the bridesmaid list is complete and I am very happy to have my "lil sis," stand up with us on such a beautiful day to come..:D

We also looked at an invitations company that was great! We will continue to figure out if Kevin making our invites is going to be more cost effective or if a company, like the one we looked at on Saturday, will be more cost effective in the long run.

After we returned from our day with Jessa, I was gazing at my ring and noticed  it was missing a diamond! In that moment, I knew that I would have to be without my ring for a few days! So,  after church on Sunday we took it to Helzburg and to my dismay, it was going to be an ENTIRE WEEK before it would be repaired! It was a weird feeling leaving my ring there and knowing I wouldn't have it for a entire week. But, on Wednesday, while hanging out with my sister, brother in law and the nephews, we dropped into Helzburg, just to see if it was done! Sure enough, it was back, repaired and sparkling like non other! Boy, I am glad to have it back on my finger!

We have a few leads on other photographers.....!

Flower ideas are in the works......!

Vases for the isle are being bought.....!

Things are well underway.....!

Photographer.....not check.....

Written on 1:24 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Well we finally heard from Ryan Brenizer......the other couple that had inquired about the date before us decided to book him.  Even though this is not the end result we were hoping for, it's nice to now know whatever the outcome.  I still hold his work in the highest regard.  Next time we're in NYC we're definitely looking him up to do some shooting, per his request.  If you need the BEST photographer period look him up.....although expect some jealousy from Jos and I.  Just kidding.

So now we have a new hunt.  Finding a photographer whose work inspires and moves us in the way that Ryan's work does.  And also finding a photographer whose approach is a spot on as his.  Tall order.  Tall order indeed.

Our next lead is Wirken Photography.  www.wirkenphoto.com

They're based out of KC and so far we've both been stoked about what we've seen.  Check out their web site and look at Becca's work.  She's the stand-out for us.  I sent an email today to them to check first and foremost that November 7th is open.  So fingers crossed on that one.

Tomorrow Jos and I are heading to KC to check out some miscellaneous wedding stuff.  We're picking up my "little sister" Jessa in Topeka before heading over to the big city.  We've enlisted Jessa as our photographer for the day so I'm sure I'll have plenty of pics up after this weekend.

On a seperate note, if anyone is looking for a KILLER point-and-shoot camera that bests any competitor on the market.  It's the Panasonic Lumix LX3.  It's small enough for me that it's with me at all times....unless I'm rocking my big boy SLRs!  Every pic you've seen so far on the blog has been with the LX3.  And I'm sure you'll see many many more from it.

Tonight's we're taking a break from planning and going with Kurt and Kathrin to see Paul Blart: Mall Cop.  It's going to be fantastic.  Cheers.

Wedding cake........CHECK!

Written on 4:43 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

After meeting with the "cake lady," we've decided Cake Affairs,  in Wichita, KS is the company in which will be making our wedding cake dreams come true! Kevin and I spent a good hour and a half talking and getting to personally know the lady owner. After being in the cake business 11 years, she truly knows what she is doing! Check them out @ cakeaffairs.net

The cake flavors in which we have chosen include: Butter Pecan, a basic white wedding cake and last but not least, chocolate fudge! Trust me, you will not be disappointed by any of the flavors!

But the style and details of our cake, well that one you will just have to find out for yourself ....! It will be a beautiful cake and I am already excited to see the final result!

Enough cake talk....

Tomorrow I will be trying on "the dress," again. After last weekend's trip to a local bridal store here in Derby, the last thing I told myself was,
"Do not come out loving a dress in this store, but keep your options open..."
Sure enough, I found a dress I am absolutely in love with and can't wait to try it on again!
As for my bridesmaids, at first I was sold on a copper/burnt orange color, but not as much anymore. I have found a beautiful olive/fern green colored dress, that I am heavily considering! But not entirely sold yet! I will keep my options open on that aspect right now.

Ok...better get a move on other items ....

Hitting the ground...

Written on 10:05 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

After work today I hit the ground running. The thought of designing our save-the-dates and the invitations really excites me...but then I start plunkimg down all of the pieces needed to assemble just one invitation and it's crazy. I keep thinking, "People better love these things!" Hahaha.

If you've never been to either Maxine's of Bradley Paper I highly recommend visiting.  They have both been HUGE help in budgeting and wading through the world that is paper.  Below are some sample sheets that will likely comprise the color scheme of the wedding as well as the invitations.  They have both forever earned my business.

Jos got her hair trimmed today and spent the majority of the time talking with Ngoc about wedding hairstyles and such.  Stylist?  BOOKED!

Today is actually our 3-month anniversary. 3-months to go from friends to engaged. Needless to say we don't mess about!  But boy, when ya know you know.  We celebrated by going to Chipotle.  Fancy we know ;)

We also hit up Men's Warehouse to look at Tuxes.  We were promptly greeted...pointed to a book....then ignored for 10 minutes until we decided to leave.  Strike two men's Warehouse.  Strike Two.  If anyone knows any good Tux places where I can possibly purchase my own tux let us know.  joskevwedding@gmail.com

Still waiting to hear from Ryan (dream photographer) regarding whether or not the couple who have dibs on him for November 7th have snatched him up or not. We're anxious about that one.  http://www.ryanbrenizer.com

We have an appointment with a potential cake place tomorrow at 4:30.  They have one more slot open for November 7th.  The place is called Cake Affairs.  It's actually just run by two sisters out of their houses.  That'll be interesting to actually go to someone's home that we don't know.  Wonder if she'll let me take pictures?!?!?  Hahaha

Other than that things are going swimmingly. Jos is excited about her last week at Rainbows and we're both ready for the weekend!

Welcome To The Blog

Written on 9:12 PM by Jos & Kev's Wedding Planning

Welcome to the first post for our wedding planning blog!

Our hope is that you can experience all of the planning stages along with us.

We're off to a fast start.  It's only been one week since I proposed and yet the planning is in full swing.  Tonight, for example, we spent a good hour looking at tux styles online so I can start deciphering my tastes.  I have a gut feeling that what I like, and what looks best on me, will be unrelated......but time will tell.

Jos, on the other hand, has jumped right in this past weekend by attending the bridal expo in Wichita with my mom, her mom and sister, and friend.....not to mention she thinks she may have already found "THE DRESS."

This coming week we're hoping to further investigate cake styles and flavors, as well as, take another plunge into designing our wedding invitations.  The plan is for me to do all of the design work myself......although we're not entirely sold on that idea.  It'll really all come down to whether or not we are willing to invest the considerable amount of time in prep and assembly.  More on that later...

Time to bid farewell for the evening and send Jos off to bed.
